Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is reminding the public that 999 hoaxes put lives at risk after a "malicious" call out in Newquay yesterday evening.
A crew was sent to Holywell Bay just before 9pm after a child called to report a fire at a holiday park.
A fire service spokesperson said: "On their arrival, the call was found to be a malicious hoax call.
"Whilst the firefighters were responding to this call they were not available to attend any genuine emergency in the area. This would have put the lives of members of the public at risk because fire appliances would have had to attend from further away."
The service has asked the public to make sure their children are aware of the dangers associated with making hoax calls.
