Firefghters were called yesterday to a house on Windmill Hill at Grampound Road, after reports of a loud bang.
Five firefighters from St Austell and six from St Dennis went to the property at around midday, where there had been a loud bang and smell of burning.
A Fire service spokeseperson said: "On crews' arrival there had been a fire involving an iron on a cooker hob which had been turned on.
"The fire was out on crews' arrival, crews inspected the scene and gave advice to the occupants of the premises."
