It was party time at CLIC Sargent’s shop in Truro last week as staff and volunteers celebrated its 25th birthday.

The charity shop in 6 Frances Street, held a tea party for its customers, volunteers past and present, and staff to mark its first quarter century of trading in the town. It has raised £1.25 million during this time for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. To highlight that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month the Truro shop dressed its windows with gold items.

To get everyone in a celebratory mood, a 25 per cent discount was offered on summer clothing and Camborne-resident Brenda Barras, the shop’s the 25th customer of the day, received a £10 Marks and Spencer voucher.

Steph Williams, manager of the shop, said: “We had a great afternoon. Everyone had fun and enjoyed lots of tea, cake and laughter. What made it even better was that it was my birthday on the same day – I felt very lucky to share it with so many special people.

“We want to thank all our loyal customers for their support over the past 25 years and for supporting CLIC Sargent’s important work. Without them we wouldn’t be able to provide children and young people with cancer and their families with emotional, practical, financial and clinical support.”

Throughout September CLIC Sargent is also asking people to wear a gold ribbon to show their support for the thousands of families across the UK coping with the devastating impact of cancer and its treatment.

You can buy gold ribbon badges from the Truro shop, CLIC Sargent’s online shop and other branches of the charity’s shops. The gold ribbons are also available from branches of J D Wetherspoon pubs, Wallis, H Samuel, Ernest Jones and Wren Kitchens. Ribbons are available from: http://shop.clicsargent.org.uk.
