St Agnes coastguard were called to help with the rescue of a para glider pilot which crashed into the cliffs at High Cliffs, Perranporth this afternoon.

The pilot hit the ground, and then fell down the cliff into a ravine, where he came to a rest.

Perranporth RNLI lifeguards initially located and stabilised the casualty before the arrival of St Agnes and Newquay coastguard cliff rescue teams, and Royal Navy Seaking R193.

Coastguards set up a safe working area with cliff lines and harnesses and then worked with the winch man, helicopter and lifeguard, to get the casualty into the helicopter stretcher.

Due to the awkward position of the stretcher in the ravine, a high line was used to assist with the winching of the casualty.

The casualty is now being treated at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske.
