The team behind the biggest community event on Truro’s calendar, City of Lights, is calling for people to volunteer and ensure the 30,000-strong audience has the best experience possible.

Now in its 19th year and taking place on Wednesday, November 18, City of Lights represents the start of Christmas festivities in Truro and involves 20 schools and 800 children.

Organisers want to attract double the number of volunteers they have had in recent years, aiming to get up to 100 people to help steward on the night.

This year's theme will be The Museum of Lost Secrets. Withy and tissue-paper lanterns will be inspired by the Cornish Archives and County Records, alongside digital installations.

Event director Claire Eason-Bassett said: “City of Lights is both uniquely challenging and incredible rewarding event to put on. We attract more and more people each year to the event to experience the lanterns and atmosphere, and it’s Truro’s busiest night of the year.

“We are looking for people to put the date in their diary now and think about if they can support us by volunteering. We need people to help along the route, hold street collections, support school groups and support the public to enjoy the evening.

“We offer full training and it’s a brilliant experience to help City of Lights come alive on the streets of Truro.”

Volunteers will need to be available from 4pm on the day. They will also be offered a training sessions, currently being planned for the mornings of Saturday, October 24, and Saturday, November 7.
