A Truro man who wanted to use his own garage had to ask magistrates' permission in court on Monday.

Stephen Bartlett, 54, of Treffrey Road, made the unusual request as the terms of a curfew he was under meant he could only visit the building - at the end of his own garden - at certain times.

He appeared at Truro Magistrates' Court with an application to amend the requirements of a community order made on September 15 by extending the area of the curfew on the grounds that he wished to have access during curfew times.

The original order, handed down after he pleaded guilty to drink driving, required him to remain at 80 Treffrey Road between 7pm and 7am every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until November 9.

The magistrates agreed to vary the court order.
