There were disco lights, balloons and fun dance routines at Truro College Day Nursery and all for a good cause as staff and children took part in a sponsored dance in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Over £900 was raised by the event; a fantastic total made even more special as it acts as a ‘thank you’ to Great Ormond Street Hospital for how they looked after Nursery pupil Stanley Harvey during his time there.

Stanley, 20 months old, has a rare condition called Metopic Craniosynostosis, where the bones in his skull had fused early, and needed corrective reconstructive surgery to ensure his brain had enough space to grow and develop properly. He has been seen at Great Ormond Street since he was 6 months old, after being referred there as a specialist supra centre from Treliske last year. At 15 months old, Stanley underwent a major surgery to break and rebuild his skull.

Stanley’s mother, Helen Tiplady, said: “We wanted to do fundraising for them as soon as we found out that Stanley was going to be treated there, it really is a special place. But we never thought that our nursery would be able to raise so much money! We are absolutely gobsmacked at the generosity of the children, the staff and their families, we really can’t believe it!

“I really am lucky that my children go to Truro College Day Nursery. It’s a wonderfully warm and loving nursery where all the staff have taken a real interest in Stanley and our family to help us through the whole process.”
