A team of 18 from Stringers Gym in Truro took part in the Tuff Enuff challenge to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The Stringers' team raised over £1,000 which was presented to Mary Murfin from CHSW at the gym last week. The team completed the gruelling 16km race with 29 obstacles which included climbing over wood piles, hay stacks and scramble nets, crawling through mud laden pits covered with old tyres, wriggling under barbed wired pits and swimming in a lake.

Gym manager, Charmaine Heard, had the team complete a 90-day training program in preparation for the event, which involved a progressive running schedule and monthly training.

She said: “I was really impressed with the team’s effort and determination to complete the course. A lot of those who took part were not runners and took on the physical and mental challenge that is required for an event such as this.

"The fact they were competing to raise money for CHSW undoubtedly inspired them to finish. This charity is so worthwhile and we are very grateful to everyone who sponsored us. It has been a fantastic experience to see gym members coming together to support children and families in need of respite care."

Mary Murfin, said: “The Stringers team did absolutely fantastically, not only in their completion of this epic challenge but also with their fundraising for CHSW. On behalf of all of the children and families that we support I would like to thank each and everyone one of you who took part in Tuff Enuff and who donated to the team, your money will make such a difference.”
