Newquay RNLI is reminding people to stay safe in the water this half term after volunteers launched twice on Sunday following reports of people in difficulties.

The first call for help came as the crews were finishing their Sunday training session. Falmouth Coastguard had received a 999 call reporting three people caught in a rip and the northern end of Watergate Bay.

With crews already at the station, they were swiftly on scene but the casualties had already made their way safely ashore.

The second call came just before 1pm, when a member of the public had spotted a surfer in difficulties at Vugga Cove, Crantock.

Arriving on scene, the volunteer lifeboat crew could see no one in difficulties. They were then alerted to surfers safely ashore who indicated that one of them had been in difficulties but were now safe and well.

Members of the public are reminded to visit a lifeguarded beach during this half term, experienced surfers should also surf with a buddy.
