Cornish artists have a chance to have their work immortalised on bottles of premium cider created by one of the county’s leading cider producers.

Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm is repackaging its Classic range of premium ciders with a new bottle design featuring the work of popular local artists to showcase the stunning landscapes and coastline of Cornwall.

Four professional artists based in Cornwall have been commissioned to create paintings especially for the new labels, but the fifth bottle will feature a painting from an amateur artist whose work is judged the most suitable by a panel of experts. The winning artist will also receive a prize of £500.

Kay Healey from Healeys said: “Our newly designed bottles for the popular Classic range will show the best of Cornwall’s renowned art work to hundreds of thousands of cider enthusiasts nationwide. We’re excited about the four professional artists we’ve invited to create work to decorate bottles in the range, and we’re now offering one local artist the chance to join these established names, and see their art work feature on the fifth bottle in the range.”

The four professional artists already selected for the project are: painters Melanie McDonald from Newquay and Glyn Macey from Newlyn, and landscape artists Richard Pearce from the Isles of Scilly and Paul Lewin who teaches at Newlyn School of Art.

Amateur artists keen to join this illustrious line-up are invited to submit a photograph of an original work on the theme of Iconic Cornwall. A shortlist of 10 paintings will be drawn up by a judging panel, and photographs of the top ten art works will be published in Cornwall Today magazine, with readers invited to vote for their favourite.

The winning artist will be announced in April.

The competition is open to anyone aged over 18 who lives in Cornwall, and paintings need to be submitted before December 31.
