The RAF is launching a New Year recruiting drive for Reservists to join a new General Support Squadron based at RAF St Mawgan, near Newquay.

The 505 (Wessex) Squadron is looking for men and women to train in a wide range of roles, including intelligence analysts, drivers, chefs, suppliers and human resources specialists.

Commanding officer, Squadron Leader David Mann, said: “Ex-regulars from the armed forces are welcome, but previous military experience is not essential. While we have set trades to recruit, we can consider personnel qualified for other trades and also people with professional skills, such as doctors and lawyers. There will also be opportunities to progress to officer rank.”

Reservists living up to 100 miles away can claim mileage expenses for attending training at St Mawgan.

505 Squadron restores the RAF Reserves’ presence in the South West after a ten-year absence following the disbandment of 2625 (County of Cornwall) Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment which operated from RAF St Mawgan from 1982 to 2006.

The 505 Squadron recruiting campaign begins with a number of information days at RAF St Mawgan starting on Saturday, February 13. Places will be limited so anyone interested in attending must contact 505 Squadron’s recruiting staff on 01637 857372 or by e-mailing 505Sqn-Join@mod.uk.
