Coastguard and police are carrying out a search of the river off Malpas this morning after one man was rescued from the water, but a second is still believed to be missing.

A member of the public raised the alarm at about 7am this morning after seeing two men in the river. A 28-year-old man was pulled from the water, apparently uninjured, but the search continues for a second man. Police say they have "serious concerns" for his welfare.It is believed both men are homeless.

Malpas Road is closed to all traffic while the search continues, though it is passable on foot. Police, coastguard and paramedic crews are currently on the scene and a helicopter crew is looking for the missing man from the air.
