Students and staff at Truro and Penwith College raised money for charity while promoting healthier lifestyles as part of World Cancer Day.

In partnership with its health, wellbeing and sport team, the college's students and staff were encouraged to take part in a variety of fitness sessions and were offered advice to support them in achieving healthier lifestyles.

The day raised a total of £238.15 for Cornwall Hospice Care. Clare Bray, community fundraiser for the charity, attended the day and said: “It was fantastic to spend the day at Truro and Penwith College to raise awareness of what we do and all the money raised will stay in Cornwall and will directly benefit the families at our hospices.”

Lucy Maggs, student services team leader, added: “As part of World Cancer Day we wanted to take the opportunity to raise money for local cancer patients and their families. Furthermore, our World Cancer Day awareness campaign was focused on how to prevent cancer. Through the pioneering work of our health, wellbeing and sport programme we aimed to both raise awareness of healthy behaviours and support staff and students in making lifestyle changes that will help them to prevent cancer throughout their lives."
