A TRURO dog owner made sure it was a double celebration at this year’s Crufts after she and her four-legged friend strolled away with a top prize on the 125th anniversary of the world’s largest dog show.

Laura Burns and her five-year-old miniature Schnauzer fought off competition from a host of other dogs to scoop the coveted Best of Breed award.

Her dog was one of nearly 22,000 dogs at Birmingham’s NEC last week for the prestigious dog show. After seeing her beloved pooch put his best paw forward at this year’s Crufts, presented by the Kennel Club, Laura, 44, was left beaming with pride at hers and Jazz’ performance.

“I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed,” she said. “It’s not often I’m lost for words but I really am. Winning best of breed is amazing in itself but doing it in Crufts’ 125th year makes it even better. Jazz is retiring after this year’s competition so this is his swansong, and it’s a really nice way for him to bow out.

“I’ve been coming to Crufts since I was six so I’m retiring from showing too, I love doing it but there comes a time when you have to hand over to the next generation.”
