Talent in Texas Young footballers will be enjoying a taste of America as they take part in a week-long tournament in Texas this week.

17 students are competing in the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the most competitive youth football event in North America, where teams are invited based on their performance. For the second year running, the Football Academy team from Truro College has been invited to compete in the U19s category.

In past years the event has seen teams travel to Dallas from 100 countries across 6 continents, giving the Cornish players the chance to experience world-class competition as well as an opportunity to mix with some of the sport’s players from Premiership clubs.

Adam Paterson, from Truro, said: ““We’ve been training really hard for this and the team have been training for about 6 months. It’s been challenging. Some on the team went last year so some of us know what to expect playing in Dallas.”

Connor Mitchell-Sellstrom, from Bodmin, added: “I’m really looking forward to going to Dallas to experience America and play against some of the best players we’ve ever played against.”

The Academy team will also be participating in the Dallas Cup’s Homestay Programme, which will allow the students to enjoy a real American experience staying with host families during their time in Texas.
