Truro College will open its doors to prospective students for the final time this academic year as an open evening allows anyone interested in attending is given the opportunity to look around.

The campus will be open on Thursday, May 5, between 5pm and 8pm to allow visitors to take a look around and get chatting to the teaching staff about the range of courses and subjects available.

There will also be numerous opportunities to get hands on and discover what studying at Truro College can offer. Visitors can experience the power of technology as the IT department demonstrates 3D printing and the computing academy’s Near Space Mission. They can also test their skills in Raspberry Pi programming by controlling robotic arms, or experience the possibilities of virtual reality by trying the Oculus Rift headset.

There will also be a talk on apprenticeships presented by Truro and Penwith College Business, for anyone hoping to earn while they learn, which will take place in Mylor Refectory at 6pm, where visitors can also see the latest vacancies on offer across Cornwall at the apprenticeships stand.

At Spires, the college’s fine dining training restaurant top chef Jack Stein will be working with the college’s professional cookery students to create a feast for a special pop-up restaurant evening.

In White, the dedicated building for art and design, a wide range of artistic courses will be showcased, and there will be the chance to learn how to create stunning prints.

With alumni including England rugby players Jack Nowell and Luke Cowan-Dickie, and professional cricketer Jake Libby, the college boasts Sport Academy programmes with a great track record. In the Lynher building the extensive state-of-the-art sporting facilities will be on display.

Friendly and helpful staff will be on standby to answer any questions about student finance, learning services and transport links, as well as opportunities to participate in extra-curricular pursuits including sports, computing, music and academic through Academies and Study Plus.
