Stronger In supporters have responded to Boris Johnson’s South West visit today after his Vote Leave battle bus arrived in Truro this morning.

However, supporters of Britain Stronger In Europe, the official campaign for to remain in Europe, say the visit is simply another attempt by Boris to gain publicity for himself.

He will visit Truro and Exeter – both constituencies with MPs supporting a vote to remain better off in Europe than out of it.

Labour MP for Exeter Ben Bradshaw said: “Everyone, even his own Westcountry-based father and his brother, who's a science Minister, knows Boris Johnson doesn't believe in Britain leaving Europe, he's just doing this because he wants to be Conservative leader.

“Putting his personal ambition above the national interest is totally irresponsible. Johnson has flip flopped almost daily even during the campaign itself on what kind of trade deal he would see us having if we leave, if we'd still be part of the single market and most recently his outrageous assertion that Europe rather than Putin is responsible for the problems in Ukraine.”

Conservative MP for Truro and Falmouth Sarah Newton said: "I am sure people will give a celebrity like Boris a warm welcome as he is such an entertainer, just the person to have a laugh with over a pint and a pasty. But on the serious matter for Cornish people, their livelihoods, will he answer this simple question: can he provide one independent economic analysis that proves that the Cornish economy will be stronger outside the EU?"
