A Cornwall Councillor has said she is "very pleased" that the police have apologised after creating a 'murder victim' sand sculpture which some said was in poor taste.

A team from Devon and Conrwall Police created the sculpture - complete with breasts, seaweed hair and a spade stuck in her back - at the Cornwall Beach Games in Perranporth, scooping first prize in the process.

But some people, including Cornwall Councillor Hanna Toms, said it was in poor taste and included elements of "sexual stereotyping."

However, while some saw it as offensive to women and victims of crime, others saw it as just a bit of harmless fun.

Penryn photographer Phil Starkey wrote on Facebook: "For goodness sake. It's just a bit of fun, the councillor should lighten up and find their sense of humour."

And Hels Cattran-Dunlop said: "Has everyone lost their sense of humour. It's a bit of fun and means nothing. Why do people have to read more into it than there is. A bit of sand and a spade."

Contacted by the Packet today, Ms Toms said: "The police have apologised, and I'm very pleased that they have."
