Truro will celebrate its beautiful parks, gardens and open spaces next month as the Garden Truro festival returns to Lemon Quay.

The four day event, co-ordinated by Truro City Council and supported by Totally Truro BID will be on the piazza from July 6 to 9, coinciding with a visit from the South West in Bloom judges.

Roger Gazzard, town clerk for Truro City Council, said: "The Truro City Council parks team do such a tremendous job throughout the year keeping our parks and gardens looking fantastic.

"We want to bring the best of the city’s green spaces to Lemon Quay in the heart of Truro for the public to learn more, pick up some expert tips and enjoy what is on offer."

Throughout the event there will be a garden marquee featuring a painting exhibition from local schools, and exhibitors including Duchy College, The RSPB, Friends of Furniss Island, The Screech Owl Sanctuary and The Cornwall Bee Keeping Association among others.

Show gardens by Truro City Council, Trewithen Gardens, Meadowside and Burncoose Nurseries will provide great colour and vibrant activity offering the chance to talk to the experts from the city’s parks team and buy some great local produce.

Richard Budge, parks manager for Truro City Council, said: "The best part about Garden Truro is that we can bring our work with the community and Truro in Bloom into the public domain to see exactly what we do."

The South West in Bloom judges will be in Truro on July 8 to judge the city’s gardens, floral displays and arrangements. Truro has achieved much success in this competition in recent years having received the Portman Cup and been awarded National Britain in Bloom Finalist Runner-up in 2015.

Many of Truro’s businesses will be complementing the 350 Truro BID funded summer floral displays in the town centre and joining in the green-fingered fun by dressing their shop windows with floral displays on Wednesday, July 6.
