Trelissick House and Gardens will be the evening setting for a family fun run in August which will set the pace before the annual Trelissick 10k.

The Merlin MS Centre, Cornwall’s only MS therapy and support centre, will host the fun run on Saturday August 20, in association with National Trust Trelissick.

It will start at at 5.15pm in the grounds of Trelissick, at Feock, and will offer two courses: a one mile route, and a second, much longer, more hilly route.

The fun run will start 75 minutes before the multi-terrain Trelissick 10k, for runners aged 15 years and over, which sets off at 6.30pm. Starting in front of Trelissick House, amongst acres of parkland, runners weave around ancient oaks with views of the Fal Estuary before venturing onto woodland and river paths. The race even passes through Trelissick Gardens, before the final turn to the finish.

The fun run is mainly aimed at families, but is open to anyone who wishes to give it a go. Entry fees and any sponsorship raised will go to the Merlin MS centre, which supports people with a range of neurological conditions.

Lucy Chappell, community fundraiser for the charity and the event organiser, said: “For many adults and children alike, running a mile or more will be a real challenge and one that will give them a sense of achievement. For those living with a long term neurological condition like multiple sclerosis, life can present daily challenges. Whilst there is no minimum sponsorship, please seek sponsorship. Cornwall has the highest rate of MS in mainland Britain and every penny raised will make a difference and help us to continue to provide our services to over 1000 registered users, their carers and their families.

“We are really excited to be working in association with National Trust Trelissick to organise the Merlin Fun Run, and are looking forward to lots of keen runners of all ages to make this is a fun, but challenging event.”.

To enter, visit www.merlinmscentre.org.uk or email lucy@merlinmscentre.org.uk or telephone 01726 885530 for an entry form. Entry is £5, or £7 on the day, with all proceeds going to charity, and every runner will receive a goody bag.

Participants are encouraged to wear purple or fancy dress, there will be prizes for the best fancy dress as well as the runner who raises the most sponsorship.
