A new shuttle bus service linking Cornwall Airport Newquay to Truro aimed at making access between the city and the airport cheaper and more convenient for residents and visitors, was introduced last week.

The new pilot service is the result of an innovative partnership between Cornwall Council, Cornwall Airport Newquay and Coastline Travel, the official taxi partner at Cornwall Airport Newquay. The service runs throughout the day from Monday to Saturday until 3 September.

It operates from the airport to the park and ride at Threemilestone, stopping at Truro train station along the route. It will also stop at Treliske Hospital on request.

Bert Biscoe, Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for transport, said: “Many people have expressed frustration at the problems getting from the airport to Truro (and back again). So, thanks to the people at Coastline for coming forward with a proposition that will help to make Cornwall Airport Newquay an even more important part of Cornish life.”

Adam Paynter, the council’s cabinet member for resources, added: “We have listened to users of the airport who wanted a regular bus service to and from the train station and other popular destinations. We hope this new service will be well used by travellers, especially those from the Isles of Scilly, some of whom have experienced problems getting from the airport to Truro for hospital appointments and specifically asked us to find a solution.”

Al Titterington, managing director at Cornwall Airport Newquay, said: “The new service will offer a much needed public transport link between the Airport and Truro. The fare represents a significant saving on the equivalent taxi cost which will especially benefit those travelling alone or in small groups.

"We are initially running this as a trial so we can look at how well it is used but, if there is the level of demand we expect, we would certainly hope to extend it past the beginning of September.”

Mark and Sara Rickard, owners of Coastline Travel, added: “We know the demand is there and we expect the service to be very popular and would therefore recommend passengers to pre-book to guarantee their seat and avoid a wait.”

Fares for the new service will be £10 one way or £18 return. To book call 01637 222 222. Advance booking is advised to guarantee your seat.
