A former Falmouth police officer has been found dead at her home in Gloweth near Truro.

Police are investigating the sudden death of serving officer PC Kimberley James, 35, who was found dead on Sunday afternoon.

Officers and paramedics were called to a property in Centenary Way, Gloweth, shortly before 12.20pm, following reports of the death of a woman.

Formal identification has been carried out and the woman was named as PC James, a patrol officer based at Truro, and her next of kin has been informed.

Chief Inspector Sara Crane said: “It is with great sadness that the force has learned of the sudden death of PC Kimberley James.

“Our thoughts are with Kim’s family at this difficult time and her death is a very sad loss to both her family and also to the force.”

PC James joined the force in December 2004, and was based in Cornwall throughout her service.

She served at Falmouth, Camborne and Truro as a patrol constable, response constable, local policing support constable and neighbourhood beat manager. Her most recent posting was as a patrol constable in Truro.

PC James was nomintated for a bravery award in 2015, alongside her colleague PC Helen Newton, after they rescued a mother and her children from their car which had become trapped in flood water.

The officers went to a Downing Street reception for the National Bravery Awards, having been nominated for braving the waist deep water, with PC James carrying the smallest child to safety while PC Newton helped the others to escape.

Police said PC James' death is not being treated as suspicious, enquires are ongoing at this time and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Chief Inspector Crane added: “Kimberley was a loyal and enthusiastic officer who displayed devotion to duty; she was held in high regard by all those who served with her and the many outside agencies with whom she had formed excellent working relationships.

“A talented and skilled tennis player, Kimberley represented the force at both national and international levels.”

A statement on PC James' Facebook page said her funeral would be held at Mawnan Smith Parish Church, with further details to follow.

The statement read: "Kim was well liked, and has many friends, from school and college, tennis and in the police, where she served for over 10 years. Her presence touched so many lives.

"She leaves behind her two boys, who she loved dearly."

Steve Ridholls wrote: "I'm distraught, my friend, my old crew mate, love you Kim."

And India Rojano added: "RIP Kim, so very shocked she was a very enthusiastic and great tennis player. So devastated to here the sad news, will miss my hitting partner. Sending love to all the family."
