Fun and fitness will return to Lemon Quay in August when Truro hosts its annual sports festival as part of the Get Active Truro programme.

The event, which will run from August 15 to 19, has been organised by Cornwall Sports Partnership, Totally Truro BID and Truro City Council to bring an abundance of activities to the city centre, offering free tasters and demonstrations.

Natasha Howard, event organiser from Cornwall Sports Partnership said: “Truro and its surrounding areas offer a fantastic variety of sports shops and clubs, and the 5 day event highlights the best of what this great little city has to offer – an ideal opportunity for the whole family to take the plunge and try out a sport you’ve always fancied having a go at.”

Activities to see and try take place from 10am to 4pm each day, and will include table tennis, cricket, netball, basketball, badminton and rounders.

Each day is themed to promote a different sport. Monday will be 'get outdoors', with a focus on walking, golf and the return of the climbing wall.

Tuesday will be a full-on day of energy as 'dance and fitness' take over the quay. Dance groups including West Coast Cheer, Dance with Us Two, Embrace Dance Fitness and 4FS Youth Dance will be inspiring visitors to Truro to have a go.

Wednesday will be supporting Sport England’s national #thisgirlcan campaign and Thursday sees the return of ‘wheels day’. Mount Hawke Skate, Truro Cycling Club and Aggie Cycles will be on hand with demonstrations and expert advice, followed by a stunt show from Andrei Burton and his team.

Finally, Friday will be Get Active Truro’s ‘end of term business sports day’, where the businesses of Truro will compete in traditional games including egg-and-spoon and the three legged race. To enter a team email nhoward@cornwall.gov.uk
