Pupils from Truro Prep School took to the stage at the Llangollen International Music Festival recently to perform in front of thousands at the Children’s Choir of the World competition.

Dressed in Cornish tartan, the 37-strong choir were first on stage and set the benchmark for the following eight acts by performing Jabberwocky, based on the poem by Lewis Carroll and composed by David Brunner.

The choir then performed their most challenging number, Kana Dhymm (Sing to me) composed by Andrea Ramsey but translated into Cornish specifically for the occasion by Cornish Bard, Rod Lyon.

Truro Prep School’s head of music, Angela Renshaw, said: “The children have worked so hard at rehearsals. They did an amazing job to even qualify to take part, and singing in different languages is an extra challenge. But they’re all so talented and keen. They’ve made everyone very proud.”

Mrs Craze, a Truro School parent, said: “Seeing the prep choir walking through Llangollen in their Cornish tartan with their St Piran flags fluttering in the breeze was a beautiful sight and attracted lots of attention. They did us proud on and off the stage.”

Mrs Renshaw added: “I would like to say a big thank you to the chamber choir parents who have helped by making costumes and fund-raising towards the cost of the trip.”
