Two people escaped from a light aircraft after it burst into flames at an airfield near Perranporth yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters from Perranporth, Newquay and Truro, and the rescue tender from Tolvaddon, were initially called at around 5.30pm to Trevellas Airfield to reports that an aircraft had crashed.

However, upon arrival it was discovered that the aircraft, a Piper Warrior, had landed safely, and it was confirmed that everyone was out of the aircraft.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: "On arrival the plane was well alight, firefighters used foam at the incident to extinguish the fire."

The ambulance also attended the incident, and two people were taken to hospital for treatment.
