Burglars hit two Newquay businesses in one night taking cash from tills and a safe, as well as various other items.

Criminals forced entry to the rear of Whiskers Wine and Coffee Bar on Gover Lane between 2am ond 5am on August 19, and once inside stole a large quantity of cash from the till and the safe.

Police reported a number of other items were also taken including Panasonic Lumix digital cameras, Bose speakers and headphones, two iPods and a pair of designer Von Zipper sunglasses.

Newquay CID is investigating and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, and the crime number is CR/57683/16.

The Cornish Candy Shoppe on Fore Street was also burgled by forced entry to the rear, and cash was taken from the till.

This burglary happened between 9.20pm on Thursday, August 18, and 9am on Friday, August 19, and the crime number is CR/57690/16.

Detective Constable Nikki West from Newquay CID said: “As well as these two crimes, we are aware that during this summer there have been further burglaries at businesses within Newquay.

“We are currently keeping an open mind on if these are linked, but we are also appealing direct to business owners to ensure their security is the best it can be. This means ensuring all doors and windows are locked, that cash should never be left on the premises and wherever possible, CCTV installed and in good working order.

“If anyone has any information that can help us with our investigations, or have been offered any of the items that have been stolen from Whiskers then we ask that you contact the police immediately.”
