Truro Cathedral and Truro Methodist Church will be marking World Peace Day on September 21 with a massed choir singing event.

To celebrate the day, created by the United Nations, there will be singing, readings and readings at both churches, while groups including the Cornwall Faith Forum and Amnesty International will also be involved in the event.

Activities will take place from 1pm to 3pm on the steps of Truro Cathedral - or inside in the event of bad weather - and from 3.30pm to 5pm, and 6pm to 9pm inside Truro Methodist Church.

There is no admission charge, but donations are welcome for Children of Peace, a UK based charity which aims to help support groups in the Middle East, and brings children together from both Israel and Palestine.

The4 event is linked with the global initiative One Day One Choir as part of World Peace Day which the UN General Assembly has said is “a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.”

There are already a variety of different choirs taking part in Truro, with another slot still available, and any interested choirs should contact Paul Haines on 07855 495881 or at paul.haines10@googlemail.com

A cathedral spokesperson said: "All are welcome in Truro on the day, to join in as singers, or as an audience. More than ever, we need peace in this world. Be a part of this huge celebration for World Peace Day."
