Workshops for people with learning disabilities, therapy for traumatised children and a creative school play area are three projects in Truro to receive nearly £30,000 in funding this week.

On Tuesday the Big Lottery Fund announced the latest list of 81 projects it had funded across the south west, with a total expenditure of £2.4 million across the region.

Among those projects was Erya CIC in Truro and it's programme of justice for people with learning disabilities, which received £10,000.

The group will use the funding to hold a series of workshops in local community venues for people with learning difficulties, centred on safeguarding and advising them on issues they face.

The funders said the workshops would strengthen communities by enabling those in need to come together and access advice, reducing isolation and increasing self-esteem.

Community group Noah's Ark received £9,195 for its development project, which will allow it to buy equipment and provide specialist therapy sessions to children with traumatic life experiences. The aim is to help the children to build resilience and improve their health and wellbeing, and at the same time the group hopes to improve the safety of its facilities.

Goonhavern Primary School was also a beneficiary of the scheme, receiving £10,000 for an imaginative and creative play area.

The school wants to build the new play area in the school grounds to address a lack of usable space, as well as creating an appropriate safe space for support sessions.
