Alun Jones has stepped into the role of managing Truro’s Business Improvement District (BID) and will be responsible for projects including a new city centre signage and interpretation project, the annual festive lighting scheme along with a number of other key projects designed to improve the city for businesses, residents and visitors.

Alun joins the Truro BID with a wealth of retail experience, having spent the past 30 years of his career in managerial roles within national brands, and ten years within Truro, including spells as the manager of Woolworth, Argos and most recently Dunelm.

He is also a Special Constable with a lot of experience and knowledge around the safety of Truro and its night time economy. Alun will be continuing this voluntary role as a Special Constable alongside his new appointment, giving a unique and valuable perspective in his new position going forward.

Alun said: “I’m delighted to take up the position and look forward to continuing the great work already achieved by the current BID team and I look forward to working alongside all the business and the communities within Truro.”

Working closely with the rest of the team and reporting to a board of committee members comprised of business owners and public sector workers, Alun will be leading on the development of a much anticipated signage project for the city, which is due to begin installation in the early part of next year.

With the current five year funding for this BID term due to end next September, Alun will also take the lead in the renewal campaign for a third BID term in the city.

Russell Holden, Totally Truro chairman, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alun as the new BID manager for Truro. He has a wealth of experience within retail and knows and understands Truro very well. We are excited to see what he brings to the role and we believe he will be a positive and valued ambassador for Truro going forward.”

Alun will be spending the first weeks meeting as many businesses in Truro as possible, in the meantime any enquiries can be directed to alun.jones@totallytruro.co.uk.
