After two years of waiting, shoppers at last got the chance to get inside Cornwall's first Primark store on Thursday morning.

A queue of customers waited out in the cold until the store on Lemon Quay in Truro was officially opened by the city's mayor, Councillor Rob Nolan. It is the is the first Primark in Cornwall and boasts two floors of fashion over 34,800 sq ft of retail space and will create 160 new jobs.

Simon Gibbs, director of sales, UK, Primark, said: “We are delighted to open a new store in Truro. This is an important opening for Primark and we look forward to expanding our footprint and bringing the Primark brand to more customers.”

Councillor Nolan, added: “I am delighted to welcome Primark to Truro. More people have asked me ‘when is Primark opening?’ than any other issue in Truro. People will be coming to the city from all over Cornwall, and they are going to love this fabulous new store.”

Harry Pickering, investment manager for Schroder UK Real Estate Fund which owns Lemon Quay, said: “We are thrilled that Cornwall’s first Primark has opened at Lemon Quay following much hard work to facilitate its arrival. Primark is a popular brand with shoppers and will be most welcome in Truro.”
