Naturally Learning Nursery is undergoing rapid expansion with the construction of a new building in the grounds of Truro High School.

The nursery, which was recognised as Outstanding by Ofsted in a recent inspection, has seen applications sky-rocket in recent months, leading to the need for more space. In response, a new wooden “baby lodge” is being constructed that will take up to ten additional infants, alongside the 40 spaces it already offers.

“The new open plan setting will offer a nurturing home-from-home experience for babies aged 0-16 months, with tranquil music, fairy lights and sensory play opportunities,” said Naturally Learning’s director, Mandy Richardson. “There will also be plenty of space for messy play and exploration as well as separate sleep and cosy carpet areas.”

Naturally Learning offers early years childcare for children aged up to four years, and after-school and holiday clubs to primary school age children in Truro and St Austell. Truro High School has offered a helping hand during its rapid growth by providing space where older children can learn and play until the new lodge is finished.

“Once the new build is complete, the enhanced space will provide an excellent addition to the facilities in our city nursery,” added nursery manager Sarah Hood. “Work is already well underway and we’re excited about opening our doors to welcome new families later this month.”

The closure of another childcare provider in Truro contributed to a further dramatic increase in applications in recent weeks, affecting the timescale of the build.

“The new building was originally planned for early 2017 to increase our capacity in Truro, but the closure of The Nest and the resulting increase in demand has brought things forward,” added Mrs Richardson. “We’ve been lucky enough to employ two of the staff from The Nest since its closure which eases the move for the new children.”

The new baby room will officially open at an event for parents on Friday, November 25. “We want to welcome new parents and introduce them to the space,” said Sarah, "but the event is also an opportunity for us to thank existing parents for their ongoing support. They have been incredibly patient throughout this period of change and we can’t thank them enough.”
