A new store in Truro has helped boost the mayor's chosen charity for this year with a £2,500 gift.

To mark the opening of the new Primark store on Lemon Quay, the company has made the donation to the Mayor of Truro’s official charity Robert Owen Communities (ROC).

ROC is an award winning charity which supports local people with learning disabilities; all services are geared to the promotion of social and work place inclusion. ROC was represented at the launch by Paul Deakin, the group's manager for Cornwall, and Amanda Williams from Alban Digital.

Simon Gibbs, Primark's UK director of sales, said: "We are pleased to have seen such a positive reaction from the people of Truro to the opening of the new Primark store. On the occasion of the store opening, we were delighted to support a local charitable organisation by making a direct donation to Robert Owen Communities."

The mayor of Truro, Councillor Rob Nolan, said: "The new store is certainly providing a boost to the local economy, especially in the retail sector.

"My special thanks goes to Primark for their most generous donation to my charity funds – Paul and his colleagues are overjoyed.’

And Paul Deakin, ROC’s Cornwall manager, said: "ROC is in an exciting period of development, as we strive to create the kind of life opportunities we can so easily take for granted, especially in the world of work. However, ROC is increasingly dependent on the community to improve the effectiveness of our services. Hence our sincere gratitude to Primark for this tremendous donation."
