This year’s ROC 5K (three mile) charity fun run will take place after work on Tuesday, June 27, and entrants can register now.

The annual event raises vital funds for ROC, which is now part of United Response, a charity which supports vulnerable people with learning disabilities. While Truro’s Lemon Quay piazza remains the start and finish point, the new route will take in the Newham side of the Truro River and the historic city centre including the cathedral, the Royal Cornwall Museum and The Leats. You can register to take part now at unitedresponse.org.uk/ROC5K2017.

The date was announced at a recent reception at the Gallery Café in Lemon Street Market, which was sponsored by GJ Hendra Ltd. More than 70 business and community leaders attended, including the mayor of Truro, Rob Nolan who has made ROC his official charity during his year in office.

Last year, 500 community-spirited individuals and teams from all over the county took part in the ROC 5K in a sell-out event and a record £17,000 was raised. With a new route, this year’s entry limit has been raised to 650 and with it, the potential to become one of the largest events of its type in the West Country. People aged 11 and over of all abilities - and disabilities - can run, jog or walk the ROC 5K.

The money raised by the event supports ROC Welcome, the charity’s social club based at Truro College. This year’s run has already attracted the support of more than 30 businesses and organisations. Major sponsors include PKF Francis Clark, Great Western Railway, Cornish Mutual and Truro & Penwith College.

Therese Timberlake, operations director, said: "My thanks go to everyone who attended our launch reception and expressed such strong support for ROC. This event has raised £38,000 for ROC in the past three years and is a vital platform for the sustainability of our local activities. We hope 650 people will take their places on the starting line for this year’s ROC 5K and have a lot of fun while raising vital funds for the people we support."
