Truro and Penwith College have hosted a networking event for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) teachers, following a recent announcement by the Prime Minister to reform the delivery of such subjects.

The networking event was organised to create opportunities for young people in Cornwall, and was organised by Cornwall Science Learning Partnership and the STEM Ambassador Hub.

The event was attended by primary, secondary and further education teachers, local organisation and STEM ambassadors, all keen to find out more about STEM learning.

Interactive 'hands on' sessions were conducted by organisations such as the British Science Association, Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Physics.

Guest speakers included Kim Conchie from the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and Dr. Jon Grey, Programme Team Leader for Science at Truro and Penwith College.

Dr Grey said: "It was great to see so many passionate people from so many areas of Cornish STEM education and industry coming together to help improve the opportunities for the young people of Cornwall.

“We are hopeful that this is the first of a regular programme of network meetings that can give all parties engaged with STEM in Cornwall a forum to build partnerships, share best practice, learn new skills and discover possibilities to enhance the future prospects of our young people.”
