A student from Truro and Penwith College has showed that he has what it takes - after being signed to global cycling team Novo Nordisk.

Alfie Peters, a 16-year-old sport and exercise student, suffers from diabetes and was signed to the team who specialise in helping young athletes with the disease.

Now Alfie will have the chance to travel globally as part of the internationally recognised team, receive expert conditioning and train alongside other international cyclists.

Last month the young student attended Novo Nordisk’s training camp in Spain, and said that he couldn't have hoped for a better outcome.

Alfie said: "The camp was amazing. Really hard work but I had an amazing team around me the whole time. That was like a session opener for them.

"I was training in America with them, and I've just come back from Spain on a two-week course.

"I'm going out to Belgium next, for a month. I'm hoping to go through the development and get to the professional team.

"Before I was on the Olympic British team, but Team Novo Nordisk was a great opportunity and pathway, and they really help with the diabetes part as well.

“I do strength and conditioning at Truro and Penwith College three times a week. I chose to go here because of the quality of courses and it is the right course for me.

"It’s given me something relevant and enjoyable that I can do full time.”
