Seven photography students from Truro College have presented their work at an exhibition they set up themselves, at a recent show in St Ives.

The students, all studying FdA photography and digital imaging at Truro College, had to create the images, find a location, arrange the set up and invite guests.

But their talent spoke for itself, as nearly 100 visitors attended the private view launch on Friday evening and throughout the rest of the show at The Crypt, Mariner's Gallery, St Ives.

Entitled inlustris, a word derived from Latin terms such as bright, shining and prominent, the exhibition was a great success and the students made valuable connections with local galleries and potential clients.

Marcus Way, course leader, said: "One of the course's projects requires students to find their own exhibition venue outside of the College.

"It is an invaluable opportunity to allow students to reach a wider audience and clientele with their work.

“It was terrific that through their team work and initiative they organised an amazing, diverse exhibition that showcased some of their finest images.”

Having already published her work in the Truro College 'On Course' magazine, Debra Jayne from Sheffield hopes to continue her artistic streak, and is beginning a new film project.

Filming 27 scenes in one day at The Penventon Park Hotel, the short film The Seven Deadly Sins has a lot to live up to considering the success of Debra's previous exhibitions.

Like many of the students involved Debra intends to continue her journey at Truro College to study BA (Hons) Applied Media to complete her full degree qualification.

Debra said: “I have found the lecturers, technicians and all other staff in the Truro College, Fal Building to be wonderful, so it would make no sense for me to change a thing.”
