Psych-rock icons The Flaming Lips, indie rockers The Vaccines and punk-folk troubadour Frank Turner will be joining Alt-J, Jamiroquai and Two Door Cinema Club at this year's Boardmasters festival near Newquay.

Festival organisers have revealed the second wave of acts set to perform at the surf and music festival, which will be storming into Fistral Beach and Watergate Bat from Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 August.

The Flaming Lips, known for their weird and wonderful, larger than life live shows, are currently taking Europe by storm following the release of their 15th studio album Oczy Mlody. Festivalgoers can expect super-sized props, eccentric costumes and funked up lighting, with frontman Wayne Coyne and his bandmates pulling out all the stops for a must-see sci-fi infused show.

Platinum sellers The Vaccines have released three studio albums since they burst onto the scene in 2011, riding a wave of global success ever since and with more than 1 million records sold worldwide. Boardmasters will be treated to the band’s biggest hits including If You Wanna, Wetsuit, I Always Knew and possibly even something brand spanking new to bring the glistening backdrop of Watergate Bay alight.

Singer-songwriter Frank Turner will bring his politically-tinged punk-folk sound to the Cornish coast, while grime superstar and MOBO Award winner Stormzy will bring a string of big tracks to the festival.

Also announced are UK house duo Gorgon City, reggae star Ziggy Marley, and grime legend Lethal Bizzle, along with Hannah Wants, Pete Tong, Hot Since 82, Jax Jones, Tourist, Jagwar Ma, Kurupt FM, Kate Nash, Loyle Carner and Kiko Bun.

Late Nite Tuff Guy, Purple Disco Machine, Sonny Fodera, T Williams, Camelphat, JP Cooper, Cortes, Yotto, Palace, Tender Central and Tonn Piper MC complete the latest batch of acts announced.

Boardmasters revellers can expect parties that run late into the night and a beach to recuperate on during the day.

Boardmasters runs from Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 August, and tickets are on sale now from boardmasters.co.uk/tickets
