Francesca Pyecroft-Smith of Truro is sitting pretty comfortably after winning a brand new sofa, thanks to her generous spirit and desire to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children in the UK.

Mrs Pyecroft-Smith, who had beeen shopping for a new sofa with her husband, is the luckiest of thousands of customers who have helped raise over £1.5million as part of DFS’s Give Me Five competition in aid of BBC Children in Need.

The win, which is the second in a matter of months for the store, comes just as the couple were looking to upgrade their rather uncomfortable five-year-old sofa.

The DFS Give Me Five fundraising campaign, which is now in its second year, encourages customers to enter a competition for £5 with the proceeds going to BBC Children in Need. In return, they are entered into a prize draw to win their entire order for free.

Mrs Pyecroft-Smith and her husband, Stuart, have won their entire order worth £644. She said: “We were completely shocked as we never win anything. I had actually forgotten we had entered so it was a lovely surprise. It’s only the second sofa we have ever bought and it was our Christmas present to ourselves. We needed something that was big enough for more than two people but we could also fit through our small cottage door.”

Daniel Heaver, DFS salesperson, said: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to give something back to Francesca and Stuart in return for them helping DFS raise money for disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK, many of whom are supported by projects in and around Truro.”
