Truro and Penwith College have topped the South West for diversity at the National Centre for Diversity's prestigious Annual Grand Awards.

The event, held at the Queens Hotel in Leeds, aims to highlight 100 of the UK's best organisations of the 600 the centre worked with in 2016.

Truro and Penwith College came out well with a placing of 17th nationally and the top of all organisations in the South West.

The award was announced just before the annual equality, diversity and inclusion event at the college, which this year was held around the theme "stereotypes" and was well supported by the college students.

Including a display of competition entries submitted on the theme, the competition generated a high number of entries from across the college.

Andy Stittle, a member of the senior management team at the college, said: "The award took account of staff, students and other stakeholder perceptions and is a reflection of a truly inclusive college community.

"It builds on last year’s Outstanding Ofsted report which found students were prepared extremely well for living and working in diverse communities.

"Entries covered a breadth of student activity such as paintings, photography, film, music and poetry.

"The competition generated enormous interest and demonstrated a depth of understanding and the extent to which college courses address and embed Equality and Diversity.”
