Truro Cathedral Choir has recently been recognised as one of the best musical acts in Cornwall, and you can find out why at their summer concert on June 17.

The choir were awarded the Best Music Act at the What's On Cornwall Awards, and were also placed in the Cornwall Music List of '50 of the biggest and best musicians in Cornwall today'.

Having just returned from a tour in Germany, the choir received standing ovations from enthusiastic audiences who were thrilled to have a taste of the groups work.

Christopher Gray, musical director, said: “Taking the choir to Germany reminded me what a unique and precious thing our cathedral choirs are in this country.

"The culture where boys and girls give up huge parts of their lives, not least in rehearsing every morning at 8am, to deliver hundreds of performances each year is astonishing.

"In Truro, our 18 boy choristers and 19 girl choristers are joined by the most dedicated team of 12 adult professional singers who have chosen to mould their lives around the choir’s demanding schedule of commitments.

"Outside the UK, there are very few places where this happens.

"I wanted to feature the music of J S Bach, perhaps the greatest of all the great composers, alongside composers who were influenced by him.

"One of our boy choristers will sing Mendelssohn’s sublime solo O for the wings of a dove, and one of our girl choristers, a former BBC Young Chorister of the Year, will sing the dramatic other half of that same piece, Hear my prayer.

"There will also be profound music by Brahms and Bruckner. "Come and hear why this music has stood the test of time, and is still moving people centuries after it was written.”

Tickets for ‘O, for the wings of a dove’ are on sale now for £12, and are available from the Hall for Cornwall Box Office.
