The new cabinet members for Cornwall Council have been formally confirmed by council leader Adam Paynter.

The membership of the cabinet is made up of five Liberal Democrats and five independents.

Rob Rotchell, Geoff Brown, Edwina Hannaford, Sue James and Adam Paynter make up the lib dems in the cabinet, while Julian German, Andrew Mitchell, Mike Eathorne-Gibbons, Bob Egerton and Sally Hawken make up the independent councillors.

Adam said: "I am delighted to announce the members of the cabinet and the portfolios they will hold which reflect the balance of our priorities.

“The majority of the Cabinet are new to the role and will bring new ideas to the table.

“There is also a good spread geographically with councillors from across the duchy from Launceston and Liskeard in the East to St Just in the far West."

Deputy leader Julian German, said: "I am pleased that we have formed a talented cabinet to take Cornwall Council forward in the best interests of the residents of Cornwall."

Adam Paynter is the councillor for the Launceston North and North Petherwin electoral division, and he has been a member of the council since its inception in 2009.

He has held many positions in the council, most recently he was the deputy leader of the council and the cabinet member for resources.

Julian German, an independent councillor for the Roseland, is a bard of the Cornish Gorsedh, and Rob Rotchell is the lib dem councillor for the Camelford Division.

Rob said: "I am delighted and privileged to have been selected to sit on Cornwall Council's cabinet and be the portfolio holder for adult care. I look forward to working with the council's excellent team and facing the challenges ahead.”

Bob Egerton, councillor for the Probus, Tregony and Grampound Division, said: "I am pleased to be joining the cabinet and taking on responsibility for planning and economics. These are important areas for the council and for all of Cornwall.”

Mike Eathorne-Gibbons, for Ladock, St Clement and St Erme, said: "I am delighted to be appointed to the cabinet with responsibility for customers."

Geoff Brown, Liberal Democrat and Cornwall councillor for Newquay Central, said: "I am delighted to be taking on the transport portfolio and will strive to deliver an integrated transport system, maintain our roads and make car parks work better for local communities."

Sue James, councillor for St Just in Penwith, is proudly Cornish-by-marriage, but has spent most of her adult working life outside of Cornwall.

She said: "I was really proud to be re-elected to represent the people of St Just in May and now am excited that I've been asked to take a place in the cabinet as portfolio holder for environment and public protection."

Sally Hawken, independent councillor for Liskeard East, became a councillor four years ago and has focused on young people as vice chair of the young people's PAC and sitting on the family placement panel.

Edwina Hannaford, for Looe West, Lansallos and Lanteglos, has been a councillor since 2003.

She said: "I am delighted to be appointed to the localism and devolution portfolio."

Andrew Mitchell, for St. Ives West, said: "I am extremely excited over my new role as Cabinet member for Homes.

"It was my belief in the need to correct the mismatch of housing provision and the unaffordability to local people that took me in to local politics in the first place."
