After six months of business consultations, followed by a four week period of voting, Truro businesses have voted overwhelmingly to continue the Truro BID for further five years.

Seventy-three per cent of member businesses, representing 80 per cent of the rateable, elected to remain as a BID, representing the strongest BID endorsement for Truro in the past three terms.

Alun Jones, Truro BID manager said: “The team and I are absolutely thrilled that we have received a majority vote in support of the BID from the Truro business community. We have listened to their priorities and are confident and eager to deliver a new five year business plan that is going to enhance this great little city even further.”

The business-led, not-for-profit company Truro BID, is responsible for delivering a number of projects designed to improve the trading environment of Truro creating a vibrant, well connected, well marketed and well-presented city centre.

Julien Boast, director for the Hall for Cornwall, said: “We are delighted at the positive result the Truro BID have received and thrilled that the team can now continue their work interacting and bringing the business community of Truro together. Hall For Cornwall looks forward to collaborating on some exciting future projects that will not only increase the profile of the city, but continue to develop it as a vibrant and safe place to live, work and visit.”

Sid Weeks, manager at Mallett’s Home Hardware, said: “This is really great news that Truro BID has another five year term this will only enhance the business community moving forward to promote Truro in a positive manner, well done.”

Ian Wall at the Royal Cornwall Museum added: “Continuing with the BID is great news for Truro and signals a renewed energy, bringing together the cultural and business sectors and shaping a progressive and highly valued experience for all people who work and visit this great little city."

The new five year business plan outlines new projects for the city including a city centre wi-fi system for visitors and a BID-funded city centre police constable, as well as a coordinated marketing strategy in partnership with the city council’s Visit Truro team.

The positive result also ensures the continuation of popular projects including summer floral planting and the city’s Christmas lights and event programme.

This will be Truro’s third BID term, having been the first BID established in Cornwall in 2007 and subsequently renewed in October 2012. The new five-year period will begin on October 1 and £1.4million will be invested in Truro city centre during this time
