Cornish residents and students have attended a health and social care fair to explore career options available within the industry, which is a vital sector in the county.

Health and social care businesses from across Cornwall were invited to Cornwall College to help students gain an insight into the wide range of jobs available.

Chantelle Lovelock, 18, who attended the event, said: “I have really enjoyed this morning.

“I have come away with an interview with Spectrum on Monday, so it’s been really successful.

“I have enjoyed the whole event, meeting different people from different companies, it’s been amazing. I feel I have learnt a lot more about the companies. I want to be a social worker when I’m older and feel that Cornwall College will give me the best opportunity.”

Tazmyn Sinkins, 17, a former student at Camborne Science and International Academy, said: “I have found out that I can do a work placement in the profession I would like to go into, which is becoming a paediatric nurse."

Lecturer on the health and social care course, Julie Pascoe, said the experience has been great for the students to meet and network with the exhibitors.

She said: "This gives the students a greater understanding of the opportunities available for them when they leave but also as work placements."
