A RECORD breaking 142 Santas took to the streets of Truro at the weekend to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care.

The Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management Santa Series 2017 started with a burst of red and white on Sunday, December 3. Santas of all sizes dashed around the streets of Truro to raise money for the Cornish charity that cares for adults with terminal illness and their families.

A record 142 people pulled up their red trousers and tightened their Santa belts to run, jog or walk the 3.3km route. These events aren’t just for those on two legs! Dogs are also welcome to join in the festive fun with a prize for the best dressed pooch.

One of the runners in Truro was Lizzie Hotton, Cornwall Hospice Care’s very own ward sister at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice. “Taking part was so much fun! My husband ran with me and our dog Freddie joined in too. It was good to have been able to raise some money for our charity and I must thank all my friends and colleagues who supported me."

Rob Baylis, from title sponsor for the Santa Series 2017, Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management, had this to say: “This was a fantastic and a well organised event for a great cause. Well done to all of those who participated in what was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for all.”

Claire Lyden, events and community manager at Cornwall Hospice Care added: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported us at the Truro Santa Run including our title sponsor Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management for supporting us this year in the Santa Series. "Thanks also to the Co-op for the mince pies, Rowe’s for the pasties and the Truro Methodist Church for providing a well deserved treat for all runners at the end of the race. We would also like to thank the many volunteers who came along and helped at registration and marshalling the route.”

Still to come in the Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management Santa Series are the Santa Cycle in Wadebridge and Santa Run in Padstow on December 9, the Santa Run in Falmouth on December 16 and the final Santa Run in Helston on December 17. To sign up for any of these events visit cornwallhospicecare.co.uk
