At the start of this academic year, Truro College welcomed thousands of new students through the doors celebrating its 15th year anniversary of providing high quality education since opening in 1993.

Since enrolling 743 full time students in September 1993, students have achieved phenomenal success at Truro College over the years. Over 150,000 students have studied at Truro College and many have continued their studies at university level including over 120 who have taken up places at Oxford and Cambridge and the 150 who have chosen medicine as their career.

As one of the newest colleges in the country, Truro College has, from the outset, gained a reputation based on a high standard of education and the student experience. This has been reflected in consistently high results, placing Truro College as one of the best in the country as well as receiving recognition and awards including Outstanding status from Ofsted, Beacon status and matrix accreditation.

Students’ praise for Truro College echoes its achievements: Jacqueline Davidson from Looe studying A-levels said “Truro College offered me a unique combination of courses tailor-made for my future, meaning I am able to pursue my passions of music and sport.”

Antonia Tamblyn from St Austell studying the International Baccalaureate said “It just has a great atmosphere. The lecturers are fantastic and offer loads of help and support. You can meet so many people and make good friends. The lessons are never the same and are always changing.”

Ginni Baker from Hayle studying Hairdressing said “I love the creativity and having the opportunity of meeting new people. I am gaining confidence and experience and will be well prepared for my future careers in hairdressing.”

Since 1998 when Truro College began offering university level courses recruiting 8 students for a HND Biology course, the higher education provision has increased to over 40 courses and the College accommodates now over a thousand undergraduates.

Josh Lord studying the Sports Performance and Coaching BSc (Hons) said: “Truro is one of the best places you could ask for in terms of a learning experience. The facilities at the College are second to none with two brand new buildings including some of the best sporting facilities in Cornwall.”

In the last year Truro College has merged with Penwith College with the objectives to increase recruitment in Penwith and to provide education of the highest standards that will make a major contribution to the economy and social life in the community. Jonathan Burnett, Truro and Penwith College Principal said: “Staff at the College have worked extremely hard and have established one of the very best colleges in the country. Though the buildings and resources are important, what counts most is high quality teaching and support. We have outstanding students and, although the College has grown, we remain completely focused on meeting their needs. We look forward with enthusiasm to the next 15 year.
