Truro phone mast plan goes to planning inspectorate

Having been rejected by Carrick district council’s planning team, a proposed telephone mast in Truro is now being considered on appeal by the Planning Inspectorate, in the face of local opposition.

If built, the mobile phone mast would be 12 metres high with three antennas.

Local councillors and residents do not consider the planned location a suitable place to site such a mast. It is in a highly built up residential area, surrounded by schools. In fact, the mast is within 400 metres of Penair School, 300 metres of the Happy Days nursery, 220 metres of Tregolls Primary School and less than 100 metres from the new Trelander Children's Centre.

MP Matthew Taylor and Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Truro and Falmouth Terrye Teverson have each written to the Planning Inspectorate urging them to support Carrick Council in it’s refusal of permission to build the mast.

“Local residents are opposed to the proposed site of this mast so close to children's facilities. I have pressed the Planning Inspectorate to support the council in their decision to refuse planning permission. I am sure another more appropriate site can be found,” said Mr Taylor.

Mrs Teverson added: “This mast is in a very residential area. The local council and residents are deeply opposed to it, and I just hope the planning inspectorate see what the rest of us do – that this is a totally unsuitable site.”
