A consultant medical microbiologist from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has been appointed as President of the Association of Clinical Pathologists.
Andrew Telfer Brunton took up the role in June having previously held the roles of secretary and vice president and after more than 20 years on the council. The Association currently has a membership of 1,600 pathologists of all specialties spread over 30 countries worldwide.
Dr Telfer Brunton, who lives in Bolingey, has worked as a consultant in Cornwall for 29 years most of which was spent with the Public Health Laboratory Service (PHLS). He has also held the post of chairman of the local medical executive committee and was lead consultant on the Health Authority for some years.
He said: “Cornwall still has a very high standard of medicine and I hope that holding posts like this highlights that. I am very pleased to have been elected President of the Association and shall do my best to represent the views of pathologists of all specialties at national level during my term of office. The Association has proved its value over many years and provides services to its members including conferences, a very well thought of management course for young pathologists and travel and education grants. It also takes part in a wide range of consultations concerning the future development of Pathology in the modern health care environment.”
