Truro hospital children get panto surprise

Youngsters on the children’s wards at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro were thrilled to have a visit from the stars of Hall for Cornwall’s Christmas panto Jack and the Beanstalk this week.

Members of the cast took an hour out of their busy rehearsal schedule on Monday afternoon to visit the hospital and talk to the young patients and their families.

They event fitted in time to join the Friends’ Trelawny hostesses to greet people at the main entrance.

Dame Trot (played by Richard Alan) also proved a dab hand at portraits, whipping up some pictures for the youngsters to keep before performing magic tricks and producing a line in balloon animals – mainly dogs! – ably assisted by Simon Trot (played by Mark James).

Fairy (Mary Woodvine) was on hand to bring some extra sparkle to the proceedings and helped to hand out gift bags.

Hospital play specialist Gill Caddy said: “We are so grateful that the cast were able to take time out of their rehearsals to visit us. I think everyone has really enjoyed meeting them, especially the children.”

Jack and the Beanstalk runs at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro from Friday, December 11 until Sunday, January 3 with tickets from £13. Call the Box Office on 01872 262466 or visit www.hallforcornwall.co.uk.
