Election candidate statement clarification

This week the Packet reported inaccurately that Charlotte MacKenzie, Labour candidate for Truro and Falmouth said UK border controls need to be tightened, at a public debate held at the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

Charlotte MacKenzie has pointed out that she did not say this.

Speaking at the debate she said: "The EU was established to be a single labour market and it's a two-way street, a large number of people have family who have left the UK and are benefitting from that experience."

Charlotte MacKenzie also said that it is important to ensure that asylum seekers are protected.

The Packet is happy to clarify Dr MacKenzie's position.
