Truro carpenter was twice legal drink driving limit

Marcus Woodman, 21, of Nancemere Court, Bodmin Road, Truro, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court to drink driving when he was more than twice the legal limit at Falmouth on May 12.

Police had followed his vehicle after a report that a man had been seen getting into a van when he appeared intoxicated. He told officers he had had “a couple” and then tested at 73 mcg alcohol in breath.

His solicitor Elliott Moore said he had intended sleeping in the van but changed his mind and decided to drive.

He had spent 11 months working and travelling in Australia, and now intended to earn as much money as he could to fund further travelling overseas.

Currently working as a carpenter for his father, he was fined £240 with £100 costs and surcharge and banned from driving for 18 months.
